Digital Content Strategist

Location: Remote
Reports to: Deputy Director
Hours per week (average): 40 hrs.

Position Summary

The Housing Narrative Lab is reshaping the public debate and narrative about housing and homelessness through cutting-edge research, education and training and strategic communications support. 

The digital content strategist will be a key member of our small but mighty team and will implement an overall digital strategy that engages a wide array of audiences and helps shift the narrative about who is homeless or housing insecure and why.

We are looking for a digital content strategist to lead in these four areas:

  • Develop, grow and manage the Lab’s digital presence so that the Lab maintains a cohesive voice across all of our platforms.
  • Create a range of digital content including graphics, animations (GIFs) and videos for the Lab and our partners.
  • Design the Lab’s products, including reports, toolkits, webinar marketing, message guidance and other assets.
  • Support and / or lead training and presentations on digital strategy and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, brainstorm and manage creative long- and short-term strategies for the Housing Narrative Lab’s digital presence to broaden our reach and connect with new audiences across platforms. Collaborate with content creators, grassroots organizations and media outlets to maximize the impact of the Lab’s content.
  • Create and distribute content (written, graphics, video), maintain and manage the Lab’s social channels, website, and email, SMS and paid digital programs. Set goals and targets for our digital channels. 
  • Identify, recommend and implement digital media strategies using new platforms (Snapchat, TikTok, etc.) based on best practices in digital communications and progressive advocacy.
  • Recognize trends, viral moments and rapid response opportunities to create digital content that advance our narrative. 
  • Support the Lab’s many partners by developing digital resources, training and capacity-building materials so they can effectively advance new narratives about the solutions to homelessness. 
  • Track, analyze and communicate metrics from digital platforms including social media channels, website traffic and CRM data from action forms and emails. 
  • Manage vendors for website and digital tools.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Proven track record implementing successful digital campaigns in the current media landscape. 
  • Proven expertise creating digital strategy, content development and social media account management. 
  • Deep comfort with shifting and changing priorities, novel approaches and experimentation.
  • Highly skilled in visual content creation, especially graphics and design, using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Illustrator) and/or video production and editing software. 
  • Creative problem-solving and curiosity.
  • Capacity to shift from rapid-response projects and deadlines to strategizing and idea generation.
  • Expertise integrating narrative and message testing into strategies and content across social media, email, and video in order to run cohesive, impactful digital campaigns. 
  • Expertise using analytics and listening tools to guide best practices and effective digital strategies.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work with a broad set of stakeholders.
  • Experience with email marketing and website management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social, economic and racial justice issues.
  • And loads of creativity, vim and passion for the work.

Salary, benefits and details

This is a remote position. Our staff live across the United States and travel for conferences and staff retreats as needed. We expect this person to travel four to six times a year. The salary range for this position is $75k-$85K plus benefits and will be determined based on experience and qualifications for the position. Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.

This will be a timed exercise (you’ll be given 48 hours that works around your schedule).

The Deputy Director will invite final candidates for a phone conversation and panel interview with the Lab’s team.

We expect the process to take two months.
