From Policy to Politics

How we solve housing instability and homelessness in America

Marc Dones of King County Regional Homelessness Authority speaks about how journalists can cover both personal stories and decades-old policy in a way that audiences are eager to hear.
Natali Fani-González, Montgomery County (MD) Council Member (District 6) on how politics and NIMBYism can get in the way of good housing policies.

Across the nation, government and elected officials can choose to ensure everyone in our communities has a safe place to call home. The crisis of homelessness was created by policy choices, and can be solved by policy choices. But some proposals are actually dehumanizing measures that make it harder for people to find and keep a safe and stable place to live. In this media webinar, we explore how journalists can cover the policies that lead to solutions and the politics that might get in the way. We are joined by Marc Dones, Chief Executive Officer for King County Regional Homelessness Authority in Washington state, and Natali Fani-González, projected to win the Montgomery County (MD) Council District 6 seat and former Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board. The session is moderated by former journalist Marisol Bello, director of the Housing Narrative Lab.
