Messages that lean into shared values

Messages are the words and phrases we use to advance our narratives. When crafting messages, we suggest starting from a place of connection through the common values we hold – love, family, home, equity and justice, for example. In doing this, we emphasize points of connection and commonalities, so we can move forward together. But what does this mean in practice?

Below are some sample messages, with links to images and videos. You are free to use and adjust these messages to build narrative power through your organization’s strategic communications on social media and beyond. All images, videos and concepts are free for you to download and utilize as you see fit. All of our open source tested video messages also include shared value statements.

If you have any questions or would like to speak with a member of our staff, please contact us at info@housingnarrativelab.org or complete this form.

Sample Message #1
Everybody needs a safe, quality place to live where they don’t have to choose between paying the rent and having enough food on the table.

Sample Message #2
All children need a stable and safe place to live to grow and thrive.

Sample Message #3
Success in life starts at home. When children have a safe and secure place to live, they learn more, they are healthier and happier, and their families are stronger, making our communities stronger, too.

Sample Message #4
We all want the opportunity to thrive, to plan for the future, to position our children and families for success in their own lives. Home is the first step to get us there.

Sample Message #5
No matter what we look like or where we come from, most of us want to provide for our families and know that hardship – like losing a job, divorce or getting sick – won’t mean homelessness.
